Millionaire: You gotta party if you want my inheritance

For the past decade, Robert P. Schwartz has required attendance at his birthday parties on the first weekend in August, reports the Naples News.

Otherwise they wouldn't get any inheritance from him.

But here's the kicker: The guy is dead.

Before he died 10 years ago, the multimillionaire retired ad exec put this "party contract" in his trust instructions.

Every year he'd pay for a lavish birthday party and relatives had to attend unless they had a good excuse. He even paid for partygoers’ car rental, hotel, food, and plane fare — as long as they didn’t fly first-class.

“My primary goal is that the parties be enjoyable and of a high quality,” Schwartz said in detailed instructions. “No expense should be spared if it is a sensible expenditure and makes the parties enjoyable."

He also wrote that the parties could be terminated if his wife died or she decided the parties in his memory should end. But that could only happen after 10 years.

Last fall, the widow signed papers to end the command performances. Now instead of a shindig, the relatives will get money.

For Robert P. Schwartz, the party is finally over.
